Board approves Heartland Park concrete apron, forest siteprep and hears timber-auction results

The Hubbard County Board approved a $10,060 low quote from Ron Huseby Concrete to add a 1,492-square-foot, 4-inch concrete apron at Heartland Park’s basketball court to reduce a tripping hazard and improve safety. The parks presenter said the courts are heavily used and the work will square off an exposed edge that has caused people to trip.
The board also approved a $6,660 quote for disc trenching and $1,498.15 for chemical treatment from Future Forests Inc. to prepare 30 acres of planting sites, including herbicide treatment to control competing brush and thistle. Parks staff said the work is specialized and the vendor has been used previously.
Parks staff reported results from the April 14 timber auction: 12 of 12 tracts sold for a total of $418,686.97, about $130,000 above appraised value, with an average timber value of $718.47 per acre. Staff said spring typically sees slower logging activity but prices remained strong; the next auction was scheduled for July.
Other parks updates included survey work beginning for Deep Lake Park road and parking, the seasonal planting of 30,000 white pine seedlings on 30 acres, and ongoing dock and trail preparations for the fishing opener.
Board votes to approve the concrete apron and forest site-prep quotes were recorded as carried by voice vote.
