Board reappoints and appoints members to local authorities after closed session

Following a closed session convened under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, the Henry County Board of Supervisors approved several appointments and reappointments Feb. 25.
The board reappointed Barry Nelson to the Industrial Development Authority for a four-year term expiring March 31, 2029. The board also reappointed Stuart Bowman (Confer District), Linwick Q. Vaughn (Irishburg District) and Hald West (Blackberry District) to the planning commission for new terms (term lengths referenced in packet). Joseph Higg was appointed to the Public Service Authority to fill an unexpired term ending January 2028. Tierra Dillard was reappointed to the Dan River Alcohol Safety Action Program Board for a three-year term expiring March 30, 2028.
The closed meeting was called under sections of the Code of Virginia cited in the motion: VA Code §2.2-3711(A)(1) (personnel/appointees), §2.2-3711(A)(3) (acquisition/disposition of real estate), §2.2-3711(A)(5) (prospective business/industry), and §2.2-3711(A)(7) (pending litigation). All listed appointments were confirmed by voice vote 6-0 after the board returned to open session.
Votes recorded on each appointment were unanimous; the clerk announced the vote as "6 0, Jennifer."
