Post Office Park amenities, garden signage and rail-trail events get updates; ribbon cutting expected this spring

A project manager for Post Office Park told the Complete Streets Advisory Committee the Post Office Park project is nearing completion and that officials expect a ribbon-cutting this spring. Benches, bike racks, signage and a sculpture representative of the post office are planned; some concrete repairs and electric service work remain.

The committee was told benches, bike racks and signage are “all still coming” and that several punch-list items must be finished on site before a ribbon cutting, the project manager said. The sculpture will be installed on the Dallas side of the park; arts commission discussion will determine future public art for the Millard Building side.
Separately, the committee ordered 30 branded garden signs that include logos for Complete Streets, Live Well Kingston and the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant. Emily, a staff member, said she had ordered 30 signs from a local MWBE vendor and would distribute them to committee members to install on appropriate private property and some public locations, while cautioning members to avoid placing signs on private yards without permission.
Committee members also discussed rail-trail programming and a county-led Midtown Linear Park planning survey; staff noted pop-up markets and small events have occurred on the trail and the county’s planning survey will ask about programming preferences. Members volunteered to help with outreach and to post flyers in bike shops and community locations.
Ending: Staff will track final punch list items for Post Office Park and coordinate distribution of the garden signs. Committee members will support outreach for the NYSERDA survey and county planning surveys.
