Board renews several special permits for bed-and-breakfasts and a cultural institution, sets five-year terms

At its March 17 meeting the City of Kingston Planning Board processed several routine special-permit renewals by closing public hearings and recommending five-year renewal terms.
Items included renewals for 85 Beale Street (five-room bed-and-breakfast), 70 West Union Street (three-room bed-and-breakfast), and 29 Wood Street (special permit renewal for a cultural institution for the arts; applicant listed as Tempo Arts / Kingston Music Initiative; owner listed as the Ashokan Foundation). Board members said there have been no operational issues reported and staff recommended longer renewal terms now that ownership has stabilized.
Planning Director Suzanne King explained that under the new form-based code special-permit renewals still require public hearings, but where there are no changes the renewal can proceed by administrative review and be consolidated in the board's August administrative window. The board set five-year terms for the renewals where recommended.
