Board approves removable 25-foot flagpole at Westminster Manor, 81 South Street

The Historic Resource Review Board approved installation of a removable, ground-flush 25-foot flagpole at Westminster Manor, 81 South Street.
Brian Mackold, facilities director at Westminster Manor, told the board the property's wall-mounted flag bracket was snapped in the wind and that staff and some veterans in the building wanted a new flag display. Mackold said the proposed pole would be installed in a concrete-mounted ground sleeve so the pole can be removed and sit flush with the lawn when not in use, and that the pole includes a solar light to illuminate the flag at night. “It's a 25 foot pole,” Mackold said.
Board members voted to approve the certificate of appropriateness as submitted. Staff said they would send a certificate of appropriateness and Mackold said he would like to install the pole before Memorial Day if weather permits.
The board recorded the approval and will issue the certificate of appropriateness to the applicant.
