The Auburn City Council approved the sale Thursday of a single-family property at 25 Lafayette Place, which the city acquired by tax foreclosure in August 2023.
Under Land Sale Resolution 63 of 2025 the council accepted a cash purchase offer from James R. Brock for $20,000. The sale terms require the city to convey the property by quitclaim deed, the buyer to pay all title, survey and closing costs, and the buyer to obtain any required renovation permits within 30 days of closing and complete renovations within one year of closing.
City staff said the property had been subject to prior nuisance-abatement activity and that the sale was part of efforts to return the house to productive residential use. The mayor and council said the sale shows the nuisance-abatement and property-disposition process is working.
Councilor Overstreet Wilson sponsored the resolution, seconded by Councilor Kent. The council called the roll and approved the sale: Kent — yes; Overstreet Wilson — yes; Cuddy — yes; Calarco — aye; Mayor James Genentino — aye.
The mayor was authorized to sign closing documents and staff were directed to record sale proceeds to revenue account 8992660, sale of real property. The resolution sets permitting and renovation deadlines and places responsibility for closing costs with the buyer.
No public comment was recorded on the sale during the meeting. Closing and recording timelines will follow standard title and settlement processes.
