The Georgetown Town Council approved spending $21,800 from the realty transfer tax account to repair and reconfigure the town circle fountain.
Town staff asked for permission to disassemble three sections of the fountain, replace a broken line and install a new nozzle and manifold so water would reach the third tier. Staff said the work would allow water to shoot from the sides into the top tier again.
Council members debated whether to repair the fountain now or wait for the results of a DelDOT intersection study and potential future changes to the circle. One council member said, "I think we're better off to fix this 1 right now because we don't know what the fly over the upgraded intersection is gonna do," and moved to approve the expenditure. The motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote: Ward 1 — aye; Ward 2 — aye; Ward 3 — aye; Ward 4 — aye; Mayor — aye.
The town manager said the work would be performed by the original installer and that funds would come from the realty transfer tax account. Council directed staff to proceed with procurement and to continue coordination on any DelDOT plans affecting the circle.
