Georgetown Council OKs special-permit carnival to raise funds for Ambulance Station 93

The Georgetown Town Council voted unanimously to grant a special-permit carnival for Ambulance Station 93 on a lot adjacent to the station on Front Street.

Council members said the event is intended as a fundraiser for new vehicles and equipment; station representatives told the council two of their ambulances have nearly 300,000 miles and that billing revenue has not covered replacement costs. The council tied approval to the town code process and to coordination with Georgetown Police for events anticipated to draw more than 100 people.

Russell White, representing Ambulance Station 93, told the council, "We plan to do a fundraiser for the good of the ambulance, for new vehicles, equipment. Our ambulances, have 2 of them have over almost 300,000 on them, and they're the funding just isn't there." He said the organizers prefer the lot next to the station because other locations had been turned down and because it would avoid renting remote sites.

Council members discussed parking and safety. A council member noted the carnival would be family oriented, with no alcohol, and that prior town events such as the Hispanic festival had used street closures and on‑street parking to accommodate crowds. The council also noted that chapter 79 of the town code requires police involvement for events with more than 100 people.

A motion to grant the permit carried on a roll call vote: Ward 1 — aye; Ward 2 — aye; Ward 3 — aye; Ward 4 — aye; Mayor — aye. The council directed organizers to coordinate timing and logistics with town staff and the police department so vendor contracts and safety plans could be completed before vendor deadlines.

Organizers said the carnival would set up the day before and operate evening hours midweek and through Saturday, with removal by Sunday; exact dates and a final vendor list were not specified at the meeting.
