SEAFORD — The Seaford mayor and council unanimously approved an emergency appointment on April 17 of Charlotte Wilson to serve as an election worker for the municipal election on Saturday, April 19, officials said.
The council moved to accept the mayor’s appointment after city staff reported that Isaac Ross, who had been appointed at the Feb. 11, 2025 meeting, will not be able to work on Saturday. Councilman Holland made the motion to appoint Wilson; Councilman Bradley seconded it and the vote was recorded as unanimous.
Trish Newcomer, a city staff member who presented the item, said, “Per our city charter, we are required to have 5 election workers to work this, and it is done by an appointment of the mayor.” Newcomer told the council that Charlotte Wilson of 629 Rosemary Drive had agreed to serve on short notice and that new workers "will all sort of get the rundown as they come through." Newcomer said the city placed a memo about the vacancy in the mayor’s box.
Council members discussed how the shortfall left the city below the charter minimum and noted a plan to recruit more workers before next year’s elections. Newcomer said the city would try to expand the pool so there are at least seven workers available to reduce the risk of last-minute shortages, but she did not present a formal staffing directive.
Officials reminded the public that the municipal election is Saturday, April 19, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern time. Mayor (unnamed) thanked council members and staff for coming on short notice and thanked Wilson for volunteering to serve. The council then adjourned the emergency meeting.
