CURB staff provided a routine program update summarizing contract status, rural broadband projects and available fund balances.
Staff reviewed active construction contracts, projects working toward precontract conditions, closed projects since July 1, 2023, and state‑funded and federally funded project lists. Staff said Port of Walla Walla withdrew from a federal broadband project after internet service providers covered the originally targeted areas; staff said they will bring a replacement federally funded project to the next meeting to use the freed federal dollars.
On balances, staff reported remaining state fund authority of $645,675 (loan and grant) and federal funds totaling $2,018,192. Staff said they have an application in the pipeline for the federal balance to bring forward at the July meeting.
The board also heard a brief CARB (Community Assistance/Community Economic Revitalization Board program) update noting 23 CARB deals funded to date with 21 already complete and projected lending of roughly $3.7 million over the next five years from CARB activity and repayments.
No board action was required on these informational items; staff asked board members to raise projects and community needs with staff for outreach and technical assistance.
