The Fauquier County Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of multiple requests to add parcels to the county’s agricultural and forestal districts.
Staff presented five requests that had been reviewed and scored by the Agricultural and Forestal Committee. Applicants included Laura Fox (two parcels, roughly 50 acres), John Fox (about 42.5 acres), Susan Fox Scapier (four parcels totaling 102 acres) and two other farms — all received point scores ranging from 67 to 85 on the committee’s ranking system.
Ms. Marshall, community development staff, told the commission each of the parcels either has a current forestry plan or is pursuing one. "The Ag/Forest Committee unanimously recommended approval of these addition requests," Marshall said. A local forester, Charles Brisson, spoke in support and said the owners intend to manage and maintain timber and agricultural operations.
After closing the public hearing, Commissioner Warfield moved that the commission recommend approval of the applications; the motion was seconded and carried with voices of "aye." The commission forwarded the recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
Discussion vs. decision: the Planning Commission made a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors; no final county action on the additions occurred at this meeting.
Next steps: staff will transmit the commission’s recommendations and the Ag/Forest Committee scoring to the Board of Supervisors for consideration.
