County staff asked the Board of Supervisors April 10 to adopt a resolution confirming Fauquier County’s participation in the Northern Piedmont 1 regional planning unit for water‑supply planning and to authorize the Rappahannock‑Rapidan Regional Commission (RRRC) to prepare and manage a FY2025 water‑supply planning grant application on behalf of the regional planning unit.
Staff said development of regional water‑supply plans is mandated by the Virginia General Assembly and that the State Water Control Board has issued regulations guiding the planning process. As a designated regional planning unit member, Fauquier County is required to contribute toward development of a regional plan; grant funds are available to offset regional costs and to assist planning units.
The board did not ask substantive questions during the agenda review; staff said the RRRC would execute DEQ contracts and manage received grant funds as lead agent if the regional planning unit’s application is successful. The item was placed on the regular agenda for formal action.
