House committee approves amendments to HB 1845, HB 1606

A House committee approved two amendments during a session that closed the current meeting.

The committee adopted an amendment to House Bill 1845 to remove language permitting electronic signatures in sections 9 and 10, and it approved a concurrent Senate amendment to House Bill 1606 that struck language that would have excluded electric vehicles and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs). Both votes were taken by voice and the motions passed.

The presenter speaking on behalf of Representative Mike Holcomb, District 93, told the committee that the e-signature language in sections 9 and 10 is not yet available for use and should be removed until it is. "It just it's just not available yet and we're striking that language from the bill until it is available," the presenter said.

Representative Trace Dimel, state representative for District 2, introduced the concurrent Senate amendment to House Bill 1606, saying the Senate did not want to inadvertently exclude electric vehicles as they become more common. "We don't want to exclude them," Dimel said, explaining the change is intended to keep the bill from barring electric vehicles and UTVs.

Committee members offered no recorded objections during either motion. A committee member moved to adopt the amendment to HB 1845; a motion later was made to pass the Senate amendment to HB 1606. Both motions were approved by voice vote. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally or names for individual aye/no votes.
