Fauquier County staff asked the Board of Supervisors April 10 to schedule a public hearing on proposed adjustments to the county transfer‑station tonnage gate rates for environmental services.
Under the proposal presented during agenda review, commercial municipal solid waste (MSW) would increase from $70 to $71.50 per ton and county MSW would increase from $59 to $60.50 per ton. Staff said no change was being proposed for vegetative‑waste rates. County code chapter 10‑2(c) assigns the board authority to set gate rates for disposal at the transfer station and landfill; staff requested public comment via the hearing process before the board acts.
Board members asked when rates were last increased; staff said rates rose last year (the increase was adopted in June) and noted last year’s adjustments were larger. The board did not take final action during the agenda review; the resolution to schedule a public hearing will set a date for citizen input and final consideration at a later meeting.
Staff provided the proposed rates as preliminary figures and did not present a full fee study or fiscal impact analysis during the review.
