The committee concurred in two Senate amendments to House Bill 1555 after the sponsor said the language represented agreed changes negotiated with the municipal league and a Senate sponsor.
Representative Stetson Painter (District 3) told the committee that after working with Senator Hester and the municipal league, members had reached compromise language. He explained that the committee needed to concur in Senate Amendment 1 first, then Amendment 2, in order to secure the final agreed language. "We did not concur with house or with amendment number 1. We have 2 amendments on this we have to do, but BLR has told us to get the bill that we've all compromised with we have to concur with amendment 1 first then we could go to the next amendment number 2 concur with that and then we get the exact bill what we want," Painter said.
The committee took two separate voice votes. The motion to concur in Senate Amendment 1 to House Bill 1555 passed on a voice vote. The committee then concurred in Senate Amendment 2 to House Bill 1555 on a subsequent voice vote. No members of the public signed up to speak for or against either amendment.
Representative Painter thanked the committee after the second concurrence and the committee moved on to other business.
