Route 42 broadband cabinet connected; household hookups still pending, county staff say

Staff said the cabinet—located near Zach's store south of the Moscow intersection with Route 42—was connected to the network, and that work remains to extend connections from the cabinet to individual houses, either underground or overhead. A speaker at the meeting reported the cabinet "may have been connected, but they're still working out how to make a house connection out of there." One commenter said the box may have capacity for about 1,600 locations and could serve much of Mount Solon back to Spring Hill, but county staff said they would provide a coverage map to the board.
A board member who follows the project criticized the broadband contractor for attending promotional events in neighboring Rockingham County while not yet completing local household hookups; staff acknowledged continuing logistical and marketing tasks before residents can sign up and receive service.
Staff also said there are multiple cabinets across the county ("6 or 8 cabinets" mentioned) and that staff will share maps showing which areas each cabinet will serve and the timeline for household connections.
No formal vote or funding action was taken on broadband at the meeting; supervisors asked staff to follow up with coverage maps and customer-connection timelines.
