Dougherty County seeks $563,640.59 in GDOT LRA funds to reconstruct Wilson Road

Dougherty County public-works officials on May 12 asked the Board of Commissioners to authorize an application for $563,640.59 in Local Road Assistance (LRA) supplemental funding from the Georgia Department of Transportation to rehabilitate Wilson Road.
Public Works Director Chuck Mathis described Wilson Road as an underserved route that has not had significant improvements since its construction. The proposed project would perform full-depth roadway rehabilitation, upgrade cross pipes, raise low sections that flood and generally improve the road’s capacity and reliability. Mathis said the roadway lies between Bridal Hill and Honeysuckle and is used by workers accessing Sunnyland Farm and other properties.
Mathis said the LRA award would cover the project; no local match is required. Commissioners asked about scope and length; Mathis estimated the job would cover roughly one mile and confirmed the application represents the county’s LRA allocation for the year. Commissioners asked staff to break out which portions of the county’s resurfacing/local maintenance allocations (LRA and LMA) are covered by this application and to provide the board a more detailed funding and schedule breakdown when the item returns for approval.
The board did not vote during the work session; staff requested authorization to submit the grant application by the June deadline.
