Big Spring City Council appoints two members to Zoning Board of Adjustment

At a special February 2025 meeting, the Big Spring City Council appointed Terry Hansen and Chris Bishop to fill two vacancies on the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The appointments were made by proclamation after councilmembers nominated the two candidates. “I propose that we accept these 2 nominations by proclamation,” the presiding official said before the council took verbal assent to approve both nominations.

The move is aimed at reviving a board that has not met in several years and clearing a backlog of matters, including an application for a sign that city staff had delayed. The presiding official noted, “Shane has had to apologize to a potential business here several times about why we have delayed in getting a certain matter done, an application for a sign.” The council said the board is scheduled to meet on the 13th, contingent on giving the required 72-hour public notice.

Homer Wilkerson nominated Terry Hansen “from District 4,” and the presiding official nominated Chris Bishop. The council confirmed they had reached out to existing members and the two appointees, who said they would attend the upcoming meeting. The council did not record a roll-call vote or name a mover and seconder in the transcript; approval was recorded by verbal assent.

After appointing Hansen and Bishop, the presiding official apologized to staff for the delay in making appointments and said other committees may need attention to ensure proper membership going forward. The meeting then adjourned.
