Windcrest economic development staff told the council April 1 that three active food‑and‑beverage prospects visited the city in March and identified Windcrest as a finalist location.
Staff said the prospects include an international bakery and café exploring Walton Road, a local franchise of a national chain seeking space in the area, and a regional restaurant considering a site along Interstate 35. Staff said the leads were developed through cold calls, state referrals and work with local brokers; city and WEDC leadership have reviewed the leads and discussed building renovation issues.
Staff also reported continued business retention and expansion (BRE) meetings with nine local businesses to offer technical assistance and gather feedback. The WEDC board approved an agreement to provide permanent access points to a builder’s‑market property; staff said the proposal is now awaiting final approvals and the inspection period is ending soon.
On specific projects, council members and staff discussed Burger Boy and Crunch Fitness developments. Staff said Burger Boy’s opening appears delayed into late second quarter and Crunch Fitness remains active on social media but no firm opening date is available. No formal development agreements or incentive packages were announced at the meeting.
The council received the update and asked staff to continue outreach and to provide progress reports as deals move toward lease or construction agreements.
