Windcrest Public Works reports park maintenance, Windy Hollow drainage repairs and fountain work

Public Works Director Dusty De Hoyos updated the Windcrest Parks and Recreation Commission on March 27 about monthly work focused mainly on infrastructure and a handful of park tasks.
De Hoyos told commissioners crews assisted a Windcrest facility with mud at its entrance by excavating several inches, installing crushed granite and compacting it to improve access before a ribbon-cutting event. "We assisted them in their prep in cleaning, prepping their area and cleaning up for the opening ceremony," De Hoyos said.
Staff also removed storm-downed trees from a walking trail, removed a dead tree at the south end of Windy Hollow Pond and performed drainage repairs there after heavy runoff caused washouts. De Hoyos said additional work remains on the pond drainage.
Crews began repairs to the fountain at Brook Falls Park after a long lead time for parts; De Hoyos reported one of two fountains at Autumn Sunset also recently went out of service, leaving one working fountain at that site. He said some minor irrigation leaks at the dog park persist and recommended a one-day closure after the busy season to install a more robust irrigation system.
The department continues to monitor and repair tennis-court windscreens that have been tearing frequently; De Hoyos said the city has long-standing vendor relationships and that a partner organization offering youth tennis programming may be able to help secure grant funds for screen repairs if programming continues.
De Hoyos also thanked volunteers who added picnic tables at the dog park (two were found on site) and asked anyone who donated to identify themselves so the city could publicly recognize them. He closed by noting Public Works had been supporting a community social event and other routine maintenance tasks.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the location of Windy Hollow Pond (De Hoyos identified it as the pond at the end of the Takis walking trail) and about plans to continue fountain repairs and drainage work.
No commission action was taken on the report; it was received for informational purposes.
