Council defers appointments, debates municipal-official seat on Bridal Services Advisory Committee

The Windcrest City Council on March 3 discussed appointments and leadership for the Bridal Services Advisory Committee and debated whether the municipal-official seat should remain a council member.

Staff reported outreach to previously appointed committee members produced two volunteers willing to serve as vice chair but no volunteer for chair; names mentioned included January Dugan and Stephanie (last name variously rendered in staff notes). Council members recalled the ordinance language: the mayor appoints the initial chair and vice chair, and after the first year the council appoints the chair and vice chair upon recommendation. Several councilors said the original intent was for a council member to serve for one year to establish the committee and then to phase that representative out so the committee would operate like other advisory panels with resident voting members.

Councilman Adam Hasselton was discussed as the municipal official on the committee; one councilor said Hasselton should continue through the first-year contract period to provide continuity. Other councilors argued the municipal-official slot should be a resident not on council, and that changing the ordinance would be required to make that binding. Because no candidate for chair volunteered at the meeting, council voted to defer action on naming the chair and vice chair and asked the municipal official to contact committee members and return nominations by the March 17 meeting.

Council also reviewed the committee's meeting logistics and whether the committee would meet before the council's next meeting; staff said meetings were unlikely before March 17. The council left the resolution appointing the municipal official before it, and staff will bring back more complete names and a recommendation for the chair and vice chair at the next council meeting.
