The Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved on Feb. 27 a motion to host a Bark Park adoption event on Saturday, May 17, with a time to be determined, to emphasize pet adoption and to reveal the park’s official name.

They also discussed partnering with the police department and local rescue groups to bring dogs available for adoption to the event and said staff will explore whether the city would provide vaccination or sterilization sponsorships for adoptable animals.
“I think that’s really cool,” one commissioner said about sponsoring vaccinations or fees for animals under consideration; staff said it would bring more detail back to a future meeting.
Staff and commissioners discussed timing, suggested May as an appropriate window to avoid Memorial Day weekend, and agreed May 17 as the target date. The motion to hold the event and name the park passed by voice vote; the chair said the vote was unanimous.
