Buda EDC opens 'The Hive' coworking and incubator space, plans incubator in May and 12‑week accelerator in fall

Jennifer Storm, speaking for the EDC, said the Hive hosted a ribbon cutting with more than 100 attendees and a follow-up networking event that drew about 40 people. The facility will offer coworking memberships (including punch cards, monthly passes, and dedicated desks), reservable conference and podcast rooms, mail service with a Buda address and event programming.
Storm said the startup incubator will begin in May and target early‑stage businesses with mentor support; staff will accept applications and run cohorts of about 10 businesses at a time, meeting weekly with business advisors. “In May, we will kick off our start up incubator,” Storm said. The growth accelerator will launch in the fall as a 12‑week, more intensive program for existing businesses seeking scale‑up support.
EDC staff emphasized mentorship, networking and local partnerships as central to the Hive’s goals. Storm asked council members to advocate for the programs and to connect staff with potential partners, and she invited council and the public to upcoming events, including a “south of south by” pitch contest at Meridian and other programming in the coming months.
Why it matters: the Hive aims to retain and grow entrepreneurs in Hays County by providing shared space and structured programs from formation to expansion, and staff told council the effort supports the city’s strategic goals for local jobs and economic vitality. Storm cited research that businesses completing incubator programs are more likely to succeed, noting program graduates have an 87% success rate versus 44% for those who do not participate.
Council and staff previewed membership options, program cadence and event plans; staff said more details and registration will be available on the EDC website.
