Westbury district announces $201.34 million proposed budget, reminds community of May 20 vote

The Westbury Union Free School District on the evening of its board meeting announced a proposed 2025–26 operating budget of $201,341,468 and urged residents to vote on May 20.
Superintendent Dr. Chase said the proposal carries a 0% tax levy increase and that polling for the budget will run May 20 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Drexel Avenue, Dryden Street and Park Avenue elementary schools and Westbury Middle School. “We ask you to please, please, please come out to vote,” Dr. Chase said.
Dr. Chase said the ballot will include Proposition 2, which she described as authorization to use funds previously approved by voters in 2019 to make “much needed improvements” across the district. “Although you voted for this in 2019, we are now asking your permission to use it so that we can continue to make improvements to our school district,” she said.
The superintendent also reminded families that the district will be closed for Memorial Day weekend and noted calendar adjustments; no further budget votes or implementation steps were decided at the meeting.
District leaders encouraged turnout and warned against assuming that no action is needed: “Your vote does matter. Your vote does make a difference,” Dr. Chase said.
