Council approved a $2,500 sponsorship to the Hundred Black Men, Virginia Peninsula chapter to honor two honorees. The council also approved a $25,000 payment to serve as host city for the UNCF mayor’s event at the Marriott. Both motions were moved, seconded and carried on roll call with a 7-0 vote.
Following the routine items, Councilman Long moved that the council convene in a closed meeting “for the purpose of discussion, consideration and interviews with respect to candidates for employment assignment, appointment promotion, performance, [and other personnel matters],” citing the meeting motion text as read into the record. That motion carried on roll call 7-0. After the closed session the council returned, and Councilman Long moved the statutory certification that only public business matters exempted from open-recording requirements under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act had been discussed; that certification also carried 7-0.
