Seagoville council certifies May election, administers oaths to winners

Seagoville — The Seagoville City Council approved a resolution canvassing the results of the May municipal election and administered oaths to the winning candidates, declaring Dennis K. Shilders the winner for mayor and Jose Hernandez and Allen Grimes the winners for council places 2 and 4.
City staff member Sarah Egan presented the results to the council and said there were no mailed-in or provisional ballots for the city this election. Egan reported a total of 511 ballots cast this year, compared with 404 in 2023 and 307 in 2024.
A councilmember moved to approve the canvass “I move we approve the canvassing of the vote as read,” and the council voted with all in favor and none opposed; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally. The council then had the reelected candidates complete paperwork and stand to receive their oaths, which were administered in the name and by the authority of the state of Texas.
Council members and staff noted that places 2 and 4 were unopposed in this election and that the mayor’s race produced a majority of the votes cast. Sarah Egan asked the reelected officials to complete statements of office and public access forms before taking their oaths.
Before adjourning, the presiding official announced a reception for the outgoing and incoming mayor at the council’s next regular meeting on Monday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
