CONVERSE, Texas — Stacy Adams, the City Council liaison to the Parks and Recreation Commission, reported on City Council business during the commission’s April 14 meeting, including rezoning, annexation, road renaming, contract awards and appointments.
Adams said council approved rezoning of a 0.903-acre tract on the northeast corner of North Street and Legion Drive for single-family development. The council also approved annexing approximately 7.743 acres near the intersection of Tranquillar Lane and Peaceful Lane.
The council passed an ordinance renaming a segment of Benz Eaglemund Road to Walsam Road between FM 1516 and the city limits near State Highway 1604. Council awarded a contract to Ardura Group as the city engineering firm.
Adams reported reappointments and new appointments across boards and commissions: Bennett Rawson was reappointed to the Building and Standards Commission; Billy Ortiz was reappointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission; and Orlando Cruz and Gabriel Kessler were confirmed as full members of the Parks and Recreation Commission. Adams said the council also considered and rejected an agenda item to monitor elected officials’ social media accounts.
Ending: Adams encouraged commission members to watch Council actions for items that could affect parks and asked commissioners to note certain development-related details such as curb and sidewalk commitments in developer contracts.
