Converse — The City Council on March 18 approved an Economic Development Corporation (EDC) budget amendment that increases a project account by $525,000, bringing the total available for planned projects to $950,000; the council also awarded a bid and contract for pool renovations that came in above the project line-item.
Kat Lalo, EDC director, outlined how the $950,000 would be allocated: $250,000 for an arts and entertainment project, $600,000 for pool improvements and $100,000 for general projects. The additional $525,000 is an amendment to raise the account from an original $425,000 to $950,000.
Council approved the resolution with an amendment to include the line-item amounts in the ordinance for public transparency.
For the pool renovation, staff received six bids. The low bid was Pools Unlimited at $266,500 — about $16,500 above the city’s $250,000 budget estimate. Staff recommended awarding the contract to the low bidder; the council approved the bid award and the contract. Staff said the project timeline means the pool likely will not be ready by the typical early-summer opening and may instead open mid-summer, though staff will attempt to open for summer programming if possible.
City staff said the EDC would supplement project costs (parks board funds also cited) to cover the higher bid and noted the EDC will separately address patio, fencing and furniture items described in its project list.
Council approved both the EDC budget amendment and the bid award and contract for pool improvements.
