The Fate City Council voted 7–0 on May 5 to approve Resolution R2025‑024, an interlocal agreement with Royse City Independent School District to construct Miss May Drive and North King Road as part of roadway improvements tied to the new Royse‑Fate high school.
Steven, a city staff member, told council the agreement formalizes a prior letter of intent and that Royse City ISD will pay one‑third of Miss May Drive’s total construction cost and 100% of North King Road costs. Staff said combining the two projects in a single bid package provides economies of scale and that the city will act as the project manager because the district does not frequently manage road construction.
Staff noted Rockwall County has agreed to provide up to $2 million in reimbursement toward Miss May Drive, and that the city will use road impact fees to cover its share of costs. Council approved the interlocal agreement 7–0.
Council took the action with the expectation that the joint bid will reduce contractor costs and that the city’s project management will ensure consistent construction standards across both projects. No final construction contract was awarded at the meeting; staff will bring the project procurement and contract documents to council for subsequent approvals.
