Aaron Devaney, chief of staff, told the committee the existing roof is the original surface and the proposed work would not remove the existing materials. "They're going to be basically putting a new waterproof layer on top of the existing roof with a minor decking replacement by removing a leaking skylight that's there now, and then they'll also remove some HVAC equipment that is no longer needed, that has also been a potential source for leaks," Devaney said. He described the work as a 10-to-15-year warrantied overlay intended to minimize near-term cost while preserving the long-term replacement plan.
Councillors asked no substantive technical questions at the Ways and Means meeting. Councilor DePuro said he had no further questions and noted that Angelo Febbo had explained the project earlier at a full meeting. Committee members made and seconded a motion for "favorable action" to send the borrowing/appropriation request to the full City Council; the committee recorded aye votes and the motion carried. Four members were present and voted in favor.
