GUNTER, Texas — The Gunter City Council on May 13 voted to deny a petition to remove a 10‑acre tract at 998 Bloodsdale Road from the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Staff presented an exhibit showing the parcel, described in the petition filed May 7. Council members discussed nearby potential developments and said they were encouraging property owners to consider annexation. Staff noted the tract sits near U.S. 121 and is marginally inside the ETJ.
A motion to deny the petition was made and seconded; the council recorded the motion as passing. Staff and council said they have had discussions with two potential developers considering subdivisions in the area and are trying to persuade them to annex into the city rather than remain in the ETJ.
Council members expressed uncertainty why the petitioner sought release, and staff said they had not been contacted by the applicant to explain the request. The council recorded the action to deny the petition and directed staff to continue outreach to adjacent property owners and developers.
