GUNTER, Texas ' The Gunter City Council voted Feb. 20 to proceed with a request for proposals for municipal waste collection services and directed staff to include recycling specifications and billing capabilities in the RFP.
Council discussed the rationale for issuing an RFP: the current expectation that Republic Services' terms did not automatically carry over with Mustang Water's service arrangements and the interest in allowing local providers to bid. Cheryl Brock (Public Services) thanked the council for the opportunity to bid and noted her company would participate.
Councilmembers emphasized the RFP should specify recycling-container colors (staff proposed blue for recycling) and consider whether the chosen contractor would provide a city billing platform that could restore the city's ability to send monthly notices to all residents. Staff noted Fundview (the city's billing system) could be used but would require an initial setup cost.
Councilmember motioned and seconded an authorization to issue the RFP; the motion passed.
