Staff said the ordinance renews and clarifies the technology fund and maintenance fund (the technology fund's previous expiration date had passed) and explicitly authorizes the chief court clerk to appoint assistant clerks with approval from the city manager. The presentation concluded: "A lot of the things that we had in our ordinance are no longer necessary because that is addressed" by state statutes, and the amendment leaves only those local provisions the city needs to keep.
Council members moved to adopt the ordinance on first reading and seconded the motion; the first-reading motion passed and the ordinance will proceed to second reading as required by city code.
