EDC interim director reviews workforce, site recruitment and regional partnership efforts

Staff said the EDC is coordinating with local education providers on pathways for hospitality and health‑care jobs and is facilitating industry roundtables to identify which efforts EDC should lead and which should be supported through partners.
On real estate and recruitment, staff described work to compile available property and lease inventories — including tying a vacancy feed to LoopNet and starting an in‑house list of tenant‑ready and build‑to‑suit options — and said staff is talking to local brokers and developers about industrial and light‑industrial opportunities near the airport. Two high‑level prospects were described: one health‑care prospect (a potential micro‑hospital) and a hospitality prospect; staff said both remain early in the process and have not been assigned project codes.
Organizationally, staff said the EDC has tightened operations, moved bookkeeping to the City of Kerrville, trimmed consultant costs and is evaluating customer relationship and project‑management tools. The board discussed marketing and outreach materials; staff said draft brochures and a refreshed website inventory are in progress.
Staff also said the EDC board has discussed joining the Greater San Antonio Partnership (regional economic development partnership). Staff expects a vote by that partnership’s board to accept Kerr County as a partner and plans a stakeholder introduction in San Antonio after acceptance.
Finally, staff provided a short update on Mega Creek: permit submittal to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is reportedly imminent but the TCEQ’s revised permit process has added weeks to the timeline; staff estimated that, once permits are complete, construction would still be months away and that the total regulatory and review process could take about nine months after submission.
The board discussed timing for hiring an executive director; staff said Todd remains the interim director and the organization has not yet opened a national search.
