The Marion City Schools Board of Education voted April 28 to adopt the Math & U curriculum (Cengage) for Grant Middle School under a six‑year agreement the district characterized as totaling about $148,000.
Dr. Ogden, who presented the recommendation, said the middle‑school math department and the district’s teaching and learning staff reviewed eight curricula and used the Ohio Department of Education highly qualified instructional materials rubric. Dr. Ogden told the board that “this one met all of the indicators” and that teachers and parents had multiple opportunities to review the materials at parent‑teacher conferences and a rising sixth‑grade event.
Board members asked whether neighboring districts used the series; Dr. Ogden said she did not have that comparative list at the meeting but that she would obtain it. Administrators emphasized the program’s reported alignment with the district’s intervention tools—ALEKS for targeted practice and i‑Ready learning pathways—so that diagnostic and intervention data would “feed and sync” with classroom materials.

The district’s presentation indicated the contract covers six years and that implementation steps will include teacher training and distribution of materials for the 2025‑26 school year.

Implementation notes and follow up Teaching and learning staff will schedule professional development and finalize distribution ahead of the 2025‑26 school year; administrators said they will provide the board with additional information about which other districts use the program upon request.
Ending Board members said the selection addresses concerns about inconsistent curriculum alignment at the middle school level and that adoption is intended to provide a consistent, vertically aligned math program for students moving from elementary to middle school.
