The Haverhill City Council took several routine administrative actions, including confirming a new member to the Commission on Disability Issues, approving community event permits and placing two traffic‑related ordinances on file for further consideration.
Appointments and swearing in: The council confirmed Alexandra (Alex) Ponder to the Commission on Disability Issues; Mayor Barrett introduced Ponder and she was sworn in during the meeting. Ponder told the council she had been seeking ways to “meaningfully get reinvolved with my community.”
Events and waivers: The council approved amusement/event permits for the Haverhill Garden Club annual plant sale on the Bradford Common (May 17) and Trinity Church’s barbecue and resource fair (June 8). The council also considered a Home Rule petition authorizing Adam Jankowski to take the civil‑service police examination notwithstanding the city’s maximum age requirement; the council continued that petition for one week at the petitioner’s request because the candidate was absent.
Traffic ordinances: The council placed on file two ordinances dealing with parking: one that would prohibit parking on the east side and entire length of Marshall Street and another adding handicap parking at 212 Wilson Street. Both ordinances were placed on file for 10 days.
Council action: Rolls and votes were recorded for each item in the meeting minutes; the appointment and event permits were approved by voice or roll call as noted in the record.
