Pearland business owner urges interim improvements on Industrial Drive near SH‑35 amid expansion

Russ Wilkins of Industrial Drive addressed the council during the citizen comment period to urge interim improvements to Industrial Drive south of State Highway 35 as industrial development intensifies.
Wilkins said he moved his business to the street in February 2005 and described significant growth since then. He said construction and increased truck traffic have created safety and access problems for large trucks, emergency vehicles and employees. He asked the city to consider short-term fixes — such as additional base material, moving a fallen light pole and other minor repairs — while a larger Industrial Road expansion project proceeds later in the year.
Wilkins said his tenant has expressed concern about traffic flow and emergency access during peak truck movements and while construction is underway. He asked for “a little bit of help maybe, to make it a little bit better” and said full construction may not begin until the third or fourth quarter but that interim mitigation would help.
Council did not engage in on-the-spot dialogue but staff acknowledged the comments and said they would follow up with Wilkins after the meeting.
