Pearland City Council approved multiple agenda items in a series of procedural votes Monday night, March 2025, including the consent agenda (Items A–H), a first reading of an ordinance to rename two roadway segments and adoption of an updated strategic priorities resolution. Each item passed on recorded 5–0 votes.
On the consent agenda, Council approved routine and event items by a single motion that included Consent Item H, a request related to the “Grand Arts & Eats” event in Old Town near Zelensky Park. Jim Johnson of the Pearland Chamber of Commerce spoke in favor of Item H and asked council to support the event, saying it would “bring our community together in a relaxed, but fun filled evening.” Council member Coza moved approval of the consent agenda; the motion passed 5–0.
Council also considered a first reading of an ordinance to rename Medical Center Drive to David Wagner Way and to rename a portion of Marketplace Boulevard south of Shadow Creek Parkway to HCA Healthcare Boulevard. Staff said the proposed name changes would not require address changes for businesses or residences. Jim Johnson and hospital representatives supported the request. The ordinance advanced on first reading and passed on a 5–0 vote; the item will return for second reading and final adoption at a later meeting.
Council adopted Resolution R2025‑40 to update the city’s strategic priorities and associated milestones following the council and staff retreat held Feb. 1. Chief of Staff Megan Flowers Phillips presented the milestone updates, noting completed items (including a real time crime center and inventorying storm sewer lines), four new milestones and 11 staff action items. Member Byram moved adoption and the resolution passed 5–0.
No items were removed from consent for separate consideration. The council held a separate public hearing and discussion on a rezoning request for 11.8 acres on McHard Road but postponed final action to the next meeting because the ordinance requires a six‑member supermajority and two members were absent.
