Pearland council unanimously renames two road segments to honor HCA and former CEO David Wagner

The measure renames a portion of Marketplace Boulevard, south of Shadow Creek Parkway, to HCA Healthcare Boulevard and a portion of Medical Center Drive to David Wagner Way near the hospital campus. City staff told the council the changes would not affect existing addresses or structures.
The city received expressions of support during the public hearing. Jennifer Burdie, vice president of the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber’s board “fully supports these changing changes” and described David Wagner as “one of the most kind hearted individuals who served our community through his work and his actions.” Elias Armendariz, chief executive officer of HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland, described Wagner’s eight years as the hospital’s CEO and asked the council to “consider and approve these 2 requests and continue to honor the legacy of David.”
Mayor Paton Carbone and several council members described Wagner as a visible, committed community leader. After brief council remarks the measure passed on final reading by a 7-0 vote. The city invited Wagner’s family forward after the vote and indicated staff would coordinate sign installation.
The renaming applies only to the specified roadway segments shown in staff maps; staff said no resident addresses would change. Staff recommended approval and the council accepted the recommendation.
The city did not attach other conditions to the ordinance; implementation timing and sign installation were left to staff to manage.
