Sochi (staff), who presented the designs, said the work would include wiring and lighting updates and a redesigned podium to improve functionality. "We have 2 options. We're wanting to complete the look of the commission chamber so that it has a cohesive look that matches the front of the room," Sochi said.
Commissioners discussed height and visual contrast, with several expressing a preference for the wood-paneled option that extends to the ceiling. Commissioner Joaquin suggested keeping the wood paneling the same height as existing elements; Commissioner Kavasilaka and Commissioner Rudy indicated support for the wood option. One commissioner referenced contrast for lettering and the need to consider future upgrades across the street.
No formal vote was taken; staff said there appeared to be a consensus and will proceed with design details and behind-the-scenes updates to wiring and lighting.
