McAllen proclaims March as Children’s Advocacy Center Day; center says it served 2,093 victims in FY2024

The proclamation was presented to representatives of the Children’s Advocacy Center, who said the center provided services to 2,093 young victims of child abuse in fiscal year 2024 and to 10,640 victims over the previous five years. Pat Blom, speaking with executive director Nadia Ochoa, said more than 1,100 of those served were McAllen residents.
The proclamation text noted the center’s four locations — Edinburg, Mission, Roma and Weslaco — and listed services including crisis intervention, forensic interviews and examinations, family advocacy and mental-health support. The center announced a fundraising event, described in the meeting as the 15th annual “Vino’s” (Daniel Vino’s wine extravaganza), scheduled for March 22, 2025, at the McAllen Convention Center from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Pat Blom and Nadia Ochoa thanked the commission for its support and noted an ongoing partnership with the McAllen Police Department’s investigators on child-abuse cases.
The commission read the proclamation into the record and congratulated the center; no formal vote was recorded for the proclamation.
