The McAllen City Commission on March 10 approved two variance requests for the proposed Jackson Enclave townhouse subdivision, an 80‑lot development on the west side of Jackson Road north of La Vista.
City staff described two variances: allowing a block length of about 1,300 feet instead of the maximum 900 feet required by the subdivision ordinance (transcript cites section 134105) without providing a stub‑out street; and allowing a 50‑foot right‑of‑way with 10‑foot utility and sidewalk easements on both sides instead of the required 60 feet, while providing the required 40 feet of pavement. Staff said the development is a private subdivision with access from Jackson Road and a gated exit onto K Center Street. The Planning and Zoning Commission previously recommended approval of the revised preliminary plat and both variance requests with five members voting in favor.
A commissioner asked whether the plan showed an entrance on each side; staff responded the entrance will be off Jackson Road with a gated exit at K Center Street and that the latest plan shows the configuration without a mid‑section public connection. Following discussion, a commissioner moved to approve and the motion received a second; the commission approved the variances by voice vote.
The approval applies to the preliminary layout presented to commission and staff noted the subdivision will be private with the gated exit configuration. The commission did not record a roll‑call tally for the motion on the record.
