Brook Park City Council voted to place a resolution on its May 20 agenda that would formally express the city’s support for Ford Motor Company and declare an emergency so the resolution can be sent to company and government leaders.
The resolution, introduced in the legislative committee by Councilman Stratton and presented by the mayor, says in part that “Ford Motor Company will help ensure the United States remains competitive in automotive manufacturing, preserving our technology, leadership, and industrial, capabilities.” It directs the clerk to mail the adopted resolution to Ford’s regional government-relations director, Stephanie Fryes, and notes that Ford may use the language when contacting state and federal elected officials.
Council members voiced support for recognizing Ford’s local economic role. Councilman Roberts asked whether the mayor was accepting co-sponsorships; the mayor said he was. Councilman Torres moved to place the item on the May 20 council meeting agenda under letter M; Councilman Roberts supported the motion. The clerk called the roll; votes recorded for this placement were affirmative and the motion carried 6–0.
The resolution’s text, as read in committee, emphasizes Ford’s economic importance to both Brook Park and the state and contemplates Ford sharing the resolution with federal and state leaders to underscore its commitment to U.S. manufacturing. If council passes the resolution on May 20, the clerk will mail it to the named Ford representative and the document will be available for Ford to distribute to elected officials.
Council members who spoke during the committee exchange framed the measure as a symbolic recognition of Ford’s local presence and jobs; none of the remarks in committee proposed regulatory or financial commitments tied to the resolution. The resolution was placed on the May 20 agenda for formal consideration and potential adoption.
