The Pulaski Community School District Board of Education approved two changes to the 2025'26 school-year calendar on Tuesday: converting Jan. 2 (previously an extension of the Christmas break) into a flexible work day for staff, and adding March 2 as a collaborative on-site staff work day.
District administrators said the calendar committee and a professional development subcommittee recommended the changes after surveying staff and seeking more in-year collaborative time. The administrators said converting the Jan. 2 extension into a flexible day would let staff complete eight required hours when convenient rather than extending the holiday, avoiding a longer school year.
Administrators also said the district will continue the APTT family-engagement model at Fairview and compensate that building for the effort; other buildings will plan family engagement in different ways. The memo provided to the board listed student contact-day totals as K'5: 173 days and grades 6'12: 174 days.
Board members asked whether keeping APTT at Fairview carries a cost; administrators said it primarily affects staff time and that the building's trainer will lead the work. The board approved the calendar updates by unanimous consent.
