Students brief school board on music and athletics achievements; hockey co-op wins state title

Students and staff updated the board on recent extracurricular achievements across music, FFA, DECA, forensics and winter sports.
Music department student leaders Colton White and Morgan Misfillan told the board Pulaski hosted the district solo-ensemble festival and reported high scores: 90 of 107 Pulaski instrumental events qualified for state and 77 of 91 choral events qualified for state-level competition. Colton White said, “Well, I'm Colton White...I am the band president.” Morgan Misfillan said, “Hi. I'm Morgan Misfillan, and I'm the choir president.”
The choir program is preparing a trip to Chicago and student leaders noted more than 200 volunteer hours logged by Pulaski students to support music events. Staff also reported Trium (a music honor society co-founded by students and staff) will continue community work.
Athletics updates included wrestling qualifiers to state with placements, state appearances by bowling and boys swim (including a new school record for the 100 butterfly by senior Jace Olsen) and a summary of boys’ and girls’ basketball playoff runs. Four Pulaski students were members of a cooperative girls’ hockey team that won the Division 1 state championship; two of those students, Olympia Simons and Brianna Onsen, introduced themselves and discussed the team experience.
“Most of my favorite memories come from being in the locker room...being in there, play our music before the game, and get to know each other further,” Olympia Simons said of the co-op. Board members congratulated the students and acknowledged high participation rates, with staff estimating about 90% of students are involved in at least one activity or sport.
Why it matters: Student extracurricular success and high participation rates reflect program vitality and community engagement; the reports also connect to future planning for travel, coaching and booster support.
What’s next: The music and activities staff will continue competition and travel plans for state qualifiers and coordinate booster support for trips and fundraising.
