Part-time Sunnyside 4K teacher says staffing transfer was forced, urges board to ask questions

Ashley Ambly, a part-time 4K teacher at Sunnyside Elementary, used the board's citizen comment period to say she was "being forced" into a full-time 4K teaching position at Hillcrest and to ask the board to follow up on staffing decisions.
Ambly said Sunnyside currently has three half-day 4K sections that remain full, with "full classrooms of 18 to 20 students," and argued the district's stated reasons for the staffing change did not apply in her case. "I am being forced into this position," she said, and asked the board to "please ask follow-up questions" when they see transitions or resignations.
Ambly described extensive community involvement at Sunnyside: PTO president for five years, reading incentive coordinator for seven years and fundraising that she said raised "almost $1,717,000 dollars this year for the PTO." She said the move would force her to give up PTO and reading-incentive roles and require additional childcare time, and that being part-time enabled her to balance family obligations with school involvement.
The board did not take action on the comment; the item was recorded in the public record during the citizens forum.
