Houston County commissioners approved three special exceptions to allow home‑occupation businesses and tabled two others pending additional applicant information or HOA review.
County planning staff summarized five applications considered by the Board of Zoning Appeals. The board’s recommendations, adopted by the commissioners, approved applications for: a massage therapy business at 1123 Alderly Lane (operating weekdays and Saturdays with limited client counts), a gas appliance service technician whose home would be used for administrative purposes only at 205 Candler Drive, and a pressure‑washing business to use the home for administration and store a 7‑by‑10 open trailer in the garage at 3001 Chacauga Way. The Board of Zoning Appeals recommended unanimous approval for these three, with a trailer‑size stipulation for the pressure‑washing business.
Two applications—one for home care and assistance at 202 Club Court and one for a nurse staffing business at 208 Haversham Drive—were recommended for tabling because the applicants either requested more time to consult their homeowners association or were not present to answer questions. County Attorney Tom Hall reminded applicants that an affirmative vote by the board does not override private restrictive covenants; property owners remain subject to homeowners association rules.
Commissioner Touton moved to approve the three applications and to table the other two; Commissioners Gotwals and Robinson seconded as noted. The motion passed unanimously. Staff instructed approved applicants on next steps including applying for business licenses and expecting a follow‑up document from the planning office confirming approval.
