Palm Valley Animal Society asked the Edinburg City Council on Feb. 4 for a $1,200,000 investment to consolidate shelter operations at its Lorie P. Andrews Center and replace aging kennels at its Trenton facility, but council did not vote on funding and instead asked staff for further follow-up.
The proposal would move operations from Palm Valley’s older Trenton site to the Andrews Center, add about 300 modern kennels, expand medical capacity and create customer-facing space for community programs, Palm Valley Executive Director Suzette Cruz told the council. “We are a dedicated animal welfare organization here in the Rio Grande Valley,” Cruz said. She said the organization is pursuing a capital campaign and already has a commitment from the City of McAllen; Palm Valley’s board expects to be the majority stakeholder.
