Councilors addressed an anonymous notice that was posted both at the town kiosk and the post office criticizing a named resident’s property conditions. Council members described the posting as “rude” and said it was inappropriate to publish a resident’s name in a public forum. Several councilors urged residents to use formal complaint channels — calling City Hall, the nuisance officer or the mayor — so staff can respond and avoid public defamation.
Councilor Stacks (presenting the nuisance update) said staff are updating nuisance codes and fines and working with the city of Manzanita to secure municipal court time so staff will not need to travel to a more distant court for nuisance enforcement. Council members described ongoing outreach to property owners on the nuisance list; staff said most property owners contacted have been responsive and are updating the city on their progress.
Council discussed repairing or re-keying the kiosk so unauthorized postings can be prevented, and said the city filed a sheriff’s report for vandalism of two recently installed gateway signs. Staff also confirmed they have been working with property owners on monthly progress reports and that the stated intent of enforcement is compliance rather than punishment.
No formal fines or court cases were announced at the meeting; council indicated enforcement would proceed through notice, outreach and, where necessary, municipal-court referral once arrangements with Manzanita are finalized.
