Kirk Waithe, chair of the finance committee, reported to the Northwest Regional Planning Commission that the FY2024 audit, performed by HR Smith and Company, was completed and that the audit “did not identify any deficiencies in our internal controls that might be material weaknesses or significant deficiencies.”
The commission learned that the audit process required extra staff review. Bethany Reimer, assistant director and finance lead, and other finance staff identified errors in the firm’s initial drafts related to accounts receivable and deferred revenue. Commissioners said those auditor errors, if not corrected, would have reduced the commission’s net position by roughly $400,000 across two years.
Kirk said the commission’s unrestricted fund balance stands at $780,921 and that net position increased year‑over‑year by $318,351 to about $1.5 million. The finance committee recommended acceptance of the final audit report for FY2024. The finance committee chair moved to accept the draft audit and advance it to final form; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Commissioners thanked finance staff for the time and review necessary to correct the auditing firm’s initial errors and said they will put the audit management letter and suggested policy changes before the finance committee and staff for follow-up. The meeting record shows no roll‑call tally for the acceptance vote.
